A total of $3.76 billion has been disbursed by the Japanese Government. It is aimed to hold the Summer Olympics and Paralympics this year.
Launching a Japanese Broadcasting Company (Nippon Hoso Kyokai / NHK), a source said that 390 billion yen was disbursed for the period starting in the 2013 fiscal year. Namely when Tokyo was chosen as the host, until the 2021 fiscal year starting next April. The Japan Audit Agency requires the government to announce the calculation of these expenses.
The government said the spending included $ 781 million in additional budgets in the current fiscal year. The funds were used for contagion prevention measures after the Olympics were postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The expenditure includes about $ 1.2 billion for athlete training programs. Then, $ 517 million for security. And about 499 million dollars in costs associated with building the National Stadium.
Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide at the lower house plenary session on Wednesday (20/01/2021) stated that his government will continue preparations for the Olympics.
On the other hand, a poll conducted by the Japanese Broadcasting Company NHK shows that only a small proportion of Japanese society, namely 16% of respondents, agreed that the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will be held in the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, the remaining 84% stated that they insisted that the most prestigious sporting event in the world be canceled. Or at least postponed until the situation was favorable again. Because currently the spread of Covid-19 in Japan, especially the capital Tokyo, is getting more violent.
