Hand in hand with TerraCycle, Burger King joins in the squad to protect the earth. As one of the biggest food and beverage business, Burger King plans to change its packaging into reusable ones. Read more about Burger King and their attempts to be environment friendly below!
Burger King ft. TerraCycle – Zero Waste Delivery Platform
Burger King’s new reusable packaging is a part of the company and TerraCycle’s collaboration. CNN reported the reusable packaging comes in two items: reusable containers and cups. In the meantime, these new containers will only be available in some selected restaurant in New York, Portland and Tokyo. Burger King will add more cities will in the list accordingly.
The Founder and CEO of TerraCycle and Loop, Tom Szaky once mentioned how Burger King and TerraCycle’s collaboration could benefit the environment. “During Covid, we have seen the environmental impact of increased takeaway ordering which makes this initiative by Burger King all the more important,” Szaky said, as quoted from CNN.
As the reusable packaging is a collaboration with TerraCycle’s zero-waste delivery platform, Loop, the packaging will be used a little bit different than usual. Loop uses a warranty system. So, when customers ask for a delivery, they will pay more for the packaging. Customers will get a refund for the extra money once they return the reusable packaging. Loop will take care of the rest of the job: cleaning and reusing the packaging.
Upon TerraCycle and Burger King’s affiliation, Matthew Banton, head of innovation and sustainability in Burger King mentioned that “the Loop system gives us the confidence in a reusable solution that meets our high safety standards, while also offering convenience for our guests on the go.”
More commitments made to the environment
Burger King’s collaboration with TerraCycle is not the only effort Burger King did to be environmentally friendly. CNN mentioned that Burger King has been making its Whopper from lemongrass-fed beef. Such beef is said to cut methane emissions. The company also sources its dine-in customers packaging from renewable, recycle, or certified corporates.
TerraCycle’s Loop is also trying to reach a bigger target. Last month, Loop announced that the company has formed an alliance with McDonald. Similarly, the plan is due next year.
