Twitter will create a “Super Follows” feature in the form of paid content for users to access exclusive content which is a source of money for content creators on the social media platform.
This exclusive content can be in the form of subscription newsletters, videos, special offers and discounts to subscribers who pay a monthly subscription fee to Twitter to become “Super Follows”. The content is inaccessible for ordinary users.
This exclusive content will be provided by productive accounts on Twitter, be it business accounts, celebrities, or regular user accounts.
This feature was introduced by Twitter during a presentation to investors, Thursday (25/2).
Users and Investors Have Been Asking For Super Follows For A Long Time
Before, Twitter users and investors have long asked the social media company to launch a subscription-based business model.
Because, nowadays more and more internet content creators and influencers are using services like Patreon, Substack, and OnlyFans. They use them to make money from their online popularity. Patreon is a service for giving content creators some money from their followers.
This exclusive paid content service also allows Twitter to add new revenue channels. When the world is dominated by Google and Facebook ads.
However, Twitter has not revealed how much money the subscription will be divided into content creators. Who are willing to provide exclusive content.
“Exploring opportunities to earn revenue from users (via the feature) Super Follows allows content creators and publishers to generate direct income from their fans. It will also encourage them to continue creating content that their audience likes,” Twitter explained in a statement, as quoted by AP.
Currently, the Super Follow feature is not available. However, Twitter said it would announce this new feature in the coming months.
Other New Twitter Features
Another twitter product is “Revue”. This feature allows users to publish paid or free newsletters to their audience.
There’s also “Twitter Spaces”, a competitor to Clubhouse that lets users participate in audio chats. Currently, the feature is still in private beta testing which is not yet accessible to general Twitter users.
The San Francisco-based company targets revenues in 2023 of more than US $ 7.5 billion, up to double the 2020 revenue of US $ 3.7 billion.
