Naver Webtoon will tap into the European market following Asia and North America, speeding up its efforts to tap into the global market.
According to some people within the industry on the 25th, Naver Webtoon is making progress in North America. With the monthly net number of visitors (MAU) surpassing 10 million.
The MAU in North America of Line Webtoons, a global service of Naver Webtoon, surpassed 10 million last month. The portion of users aged 24 who lead the popularity of dual Webtoon reached 75 percent.
The popularity of the webtoon page in North America is growing. It has built a successful dalliance cartoon in Korea into an amateur creative space specialized in the area. And the number of works serialized on canvas in North America is increasing at an annual rate of 108 percent.
Naver Webtoon ranks first in terms of revenue from Google Play App Market comics in 100 countries around the world, including North America. The global MAU has surpassed 60 million in total. So the global content transactions expected to reach 600 billion won this year.
After Asia and North America, Naver Webtoon enters Europe
It released Spanish and French versions of Line Webtoons this month.
Based on the results of its investigation into local readers, Naver Webtoon has released 40 works that have been unearthed at home and abroad, translated into local languages.
The South Korean tech giant is also focusing on webtoon videoization. To that end, Naver has been joining hands with media companies that have know-how in producing and distributing videos.
Naver Webtoon subsidiary Studio N will co-produce the webtoon “Sweet Home” as a drama with CJ ENM subsidiary Studio Dragon. Sweet Home will be aired on Netflix.
Naver has also formed a partnership with Warner Media subsidiary Crunch Roll. Crunch Roll has produced famous animations such as Dragon Ball and Naruto in the United States. Naver is planning to make animation with Crunch Roll and webtoons and distribute them globally.
“In the future, Naver Webtoons will actively promote the appeal of webtoons to global readers and creators through content and marketing suitable for each language,” a Naver source said. “We will also prepare a foundation for growth with local writers.”
Recently, Naver has made two big steps in joining a partnership with Netflix and Yahoo Japan.
