Elon Musk’s idea to build a factory in India since 2019
The world’s richest man had tweeted his idea in 2019 to take advantage of the less than optimal potential of the EV industry in India.
However, this idea still cannot be realized due to policies that are considered to be hindering. Such as the obligation of the local component by 30 percent.
In fact, India does not yet have all the components needed to make an electric car.
However, based on internal sources with knowledge of the agreement. Tesla has been negotiating with the local government for the past six months.
Tesla has also formed a subsidiary called Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Limited in Bangalore in January 2021.
In addition, Tesla is also completing due diligence to build offices in the area. And also plans to build research and development facilities.
