Again and again, it seems that the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump is incessantly attacking Chinese companies. This time Trump revoked certain licenses from Huawei’s suppliers. The announcement was also made to include the chip maker, Intel Corp.
Reporting to Reuters on Monday (18/1/2021), a Reuters source with knowledge of the policy said that regulators also intend to reject dozens of other applications to supply Huawei products.
This is a new move by US regulators under the Trump administration to undermine the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker, which it blamed for posing a threat to US national security. This could also be the last attack before Trump has to leave the chair of US President.
The notice comes amid a flurry of US efforts against China in the final days of the Trump administration. Democrat Joe Biden will take the oath of office as president on Wednesday.
An Intel Corp spokesman could not immediately comment, and a US Commerce Department spokesman did not immediately reply to a Reuters request for comment.
As is known, the United States has included Huawei in the “entity list” that has received more attention from the Department of Commerce since May 2019. The companies on the list are restricted from getting supplies of goods and technology from the US.
The policy was also extended by US authorities seeking licenses for the sale of semiconductors made overseas with American technology.
